This Year's Annual Fall Luncheon Celebrated 20 years of TIPS
Thank you to the Teens In Public Service alumni, nonprofit partners, donors, and community supporters who joined TIPS for our annual fall luncheon on Thursday, November 10th. We are honored to have celebrated 20 years of public service leadership with you!
Together, we were able to raise enough funds from fundraiser donations, our corporate sponsors, and from funds raised by Joe Brotherton for the Maureen Brotherton and Tia Heim Co-Founders Fund to support an additional 20 interns!! TIPS is grateful for the generosity and commitment of the individuals who support our mission to provide teens with life-changing summer internship experiences.
There were many reasons for the TIPS community to come together in celebrating teens making a difference in our community. As Keynote speaker Dan Price (CEO and Co-Founder of Gravity Payments) discussed at the luncheon, “It’s up to us to create the kind of life we want and the kind of society we want for our kids and grand-kids by staying true to the things that matter most.”
TIPS seeks out teens that care about their impact on our nonprofit partners’ mission and in turn value internship opportunities that amplify the importance of developing public service leaders. These teens become the community leaders who create educational dialogue and support the community-improving initiatives which reflect their values, learned through nonprofit work.
Nearly 1,000 individuals in the Seattle area have developed excellent public service skills as TIPS teen interns over the past 20 years. At the Luncheon, we heard the following insight from Aliyah Mohamed, a 2016 TIPS Intern: "TIPS not only nurtured my passion for community service, it helped me be more likely to be successful."
Each TIPS internship benefits our community and teen interns, alike. The Atlantic Street Center is one of the nonprofit partners who has benefited from the utility of having a TIPS with more than 20 TIPS interns over the past 20 years! We awarded the ASC’s director, Edith Elion, our 2016 TIPS Nonprofit Partner Champion Award at the event in honor of her dedication to nonprofit community stewardship and for supporting TIPS since our inception in 1997.
We look forward to welcoming a new class of interns in 2017 and are grateful for the funds donated from the luncheon which will allow TIPS to support more teens in their path to public service leadership.
